I was taken aback from the first moments of the movie in which Matthew McConahay in his character eloquently guided Leonardo Dicaprio's character on the caveats of surviving on Wall Street. I did not expect a movie that would depict the customary suppressed evidence of socially tolerated sociopaths/psychopaths with such detail and cynicism. Choosing the narrator as Leo DiCaprio was a very smart choice for Martin Scorsese. It offered him the opportunity to humanize Leo DiCaprio's character and help the audience connect with him in his struggle to attain success. It is interesting, because I spent more time using Leonardo Dicaprio's character as a mirror to my morbid cynical facet than anything. At times asking myself: Would I be able to do that? or, Is that exceedingly morbid as to judge him and shun him? At the end of the movie, I realized there was a facet of me feeling sad for the demise of his empire. As I am sure many did too. Beyond that, it offered audience perspective and a baseline on the mentality of a person that can evade institutions and consume people's life earnings to earn wealth, power, and success. His brazenness was the most sociopathic aspect that I could detect, and really is it that uncommon in our day- by-day trials and tribulations of attaining wealth/power or success? For me, the pinnacle of the movie was not the brazenly inspiring speeches that were conducted with brilliance, because they effectively depicted, I believe, a crucial facet of the nowadays wall street fat cats. The pinnacle of the movie was that after all the trials and tribulations, at the final scene of the movie, even Dicaprio's character was surprised to see an audience willing to learn from him after his perpetuating deviances and criminalities. I believe this was the culminating point where Scorsese sends his final message: We have a whole audience willing to transform into "the Wolf of Wall Street. Kudos... loved the movie.
